2,700 Maltese drones have not broken the law

No one among the more than 2,700 drone pilots who have registered with Transport Malta has breached the rules.

Chris Said asked a parliamentary question of Transport Minister Aaron Farrugia, which led to the release of new data on drone use in Malta.

As of the 31st of December, 2020, Malta enforced EASA requirements requiring drone registration with the state.

There were 950 applications from potential operators in 2022. Drones that fall under the category of ‘toys’ or weigh less than 250g and lack recording capabilities do not require registration in Malta.

Farrugia stated that no official permits have been obtained for the use of drones on the island at this time.
